All About Who We Can Be;;
Name: Jacob Black
Nickname: Jake, Blacky
Name Meaning: He who Supplants
Gender: Male
Age: Just turned sixteen
Pet(s): None- he used to have a dog
Grade [If applicable]: Sophomore
Appearance:
Jacob is, like all of the other Quileute boys, it seems, exceptionally tall (and still growing). He stands currently at about 6'6" (almost 6'7"), towering over nearly everyone he knows, although when in the company of his friends from the reservation it doesn't stand out nearly as much as it does everywhere else. Before he turned sixteen and underwent his enormous and sudden growth spurt, though, he was perhaps 6'0" at the most. Being the kind of guy that he is, Jacob gloats over his height and uses it to his advantage in every situation he can. His skin is a sort of light russet colour that comes from his native heritage, although his excessive time spent outdoors has tanned this out somewhat to the point that distinguishing his natural skin colour is nearly impossible. Jake is going through the 'awkward teenager' stage, unfortunately, but it hasn't manifested physically in the form of spots- his skin is quite flawless, actually. Rather, it has made itself known in his complete and utter lack of stability on his feet. It seems he can't walk two meters without face planting, much less handle running, so he's taken to swimming a fair bit because that doesn't require quite as much co-ordination. After all, falling into water is marginally less painful than falling onto the ground.
Swimming has its up-sides, though- muscle definition. Yet another thing Jacob and his friends seem to look upon with some admiration, keeping true to their adolescent-boy minds. The boy is very lanky anyway, all arms and legs, tripping constantly over himself- but his outdoor activities and constant dabbling in mechanics have given him a lean and athletic musculature, though of course it is not in excess at all, even if some part of him would like it to be so. For some reason nature has deemed that the Quileute stay scrawny-looking (at least, he is at the moment in comparison to the other boys who live on the 'rez- another reason to view Sam Uley and his friends with disdain). He does have broad shoulders though, and rather large hands. Jake really is quite unremarkable looking- his face, once childishly round, is beginning to harden, the planes of his cheekbones and strong, masculine jaw beginning to show through. This, however, is normal for a boy of his age. His hair is extremely dark- lighter in the sunlight, but definitely classifiable as black when out of direct light. He wears it long out of habit, but does favour it short in the summer time. At present it's sort of in between, sitting around the shape of his head and coming down to his ears in a dark, tumbling mass.
His nose is run-of-the-mill, straight with a slightly blunt end, and his ears are of a 'normal' size, staying against his head instead of sticking out. His mouth is expressive- sensual, even, and is normally found curved upwards even when it's unintentionally so. When he frowns he looks very intimidating, but most of the time his face is graced by the kind of sunny smile that can light up a room- the kind of smile that Jacob Black does best. His eyes, however, are his most noticeable (and perhaps most attractive) features. Very dark, to the point of almost being black, they give away his every emotion, and that's no exaggeration. He doesn't like them for just that reason, thinking that they're some kind of weakness of his and allow people insights into how he's feeling. When he's happy, though, his eyes gleam and are apparently very pleasing to look at, though he doesn't exactly think the word of his friends on the 'rez is anything to go by. In terms of dress, Jacob likes to wear neutral colours- jeans and a t-shirt serve him well. Nothing too fancy. Jake thinks dressing up is out of character for himself and as such avoids it. His voice has passed that awkward cracking and warbling stage and is now firmly resting at a steady bass. It's not flawless and smooth- rather, it has the capacity to be husky, and changes in tone and warmth depending on his mood.
Celebrity: Carlos Freire
Personality:
Unintentionally flamboyant and confused- the two words that best describe Jacob Black's personality. Whilst his size just about fills up a room, that's not the only aspect of him that grabs attention. His tendency to be over-confident and friendly to the point of being near-obnoxious is one that is hard to ignore. He is generally a very easy to get along with person, with a sunny disposition that seems almost irrational for anyone, let alone a boy with no discernible future. Nonetheless, he seems perpetually happy- referred to on occasion by Bella Swan as her 'personal sun'. He is nearly always found wearing his broad smile, and the sense of camaraderie which he maintains with his friends Quil and Embry is almost phenomenal. Jake has a tendency to make jokes- lots of them, and really really bad ones. His sense of humour is the goofy kind that makes people laugh not with him, but at him, normally. Even so, he takes being made fun of very well- either way, everyone ends up laughing in the end. That being said, his general approach to life is laid-back. Some people even go so far as to call him lazy, but they are, for the most part, quite sadly mistaken. Jacob is, in fact, extremely passionate and devoted to the things that he cares about. True, they do not include things like schoolwork and attention to his future, but he does have his priorities.
One of said priorities is the improvement of his temper. Jake angers easily- almost incredibly so. All it takes is having the right nerve hit at the right time and he is off. He doesn't get violent, though, despite the fact that his developing strength could easily carry somebody off. Rather, he goes through stages- first, a snappish tone accompanied by exasperated sighs and rolling of the eyes, and then a gradual progression through volume until, for those who are truly gifted at provoking him, when all profanities run out and he can't shout any louder, he just walks away. This doesn't mean to say that there haven't been occasions where he'd just let his fist do the talking for him- despite the fact that Billy has taught him to behave otherwise, sometimes there's just no way around it. Jacob is stubborn, too, to a fault. He will fight and fight and fight until there is nothing left in him, if he truly believes in something- that's just the way he is. Under normal circumstances, like admitting that he's wrong about something minor, he can give in, reluctantly, but if it's something that he's set on there will be no luck there with anybody, no matter how fond of them he is. He's always been taught that to change the way you are for others is stupid, and so he lives by that- yet another of his little quirks. One of his flaws, in his opinion, is the way that he shows how he feels and is blunt about it. So, when he's particularly hurt by someone, he's made the habit of concealing it behind a bitter and sarcastic side.
How is it that a boy who is so happy most of the time can have such a temper and be so stubborn? It's anyone's guess, even Jake's. One thing he is certain about, though, when it comes to his personality, is his sense of loyalty and responsibility when it comes to friends, family- anything. Jacob Black is your man (err...boy...wolf). If he gets asked to do something by someone who means anything to him, he will see it done, no excuses made. Having to look after Billy and even, at some points, his older sister, has endowed upon him a great sense of pride in being independent, and it shows in the way he wants to drive himself places, and fix his own car, etc. He's very much his own person. When it comes to himself, he is incredibly reckless. Sure, whenever someone else might be in danger he does everything he can to stop them, but himself? Jumping off cliffs and riding motorcycles around doesn't bug him in the slightest. The boy has no sense of self preservation. Surprisingly enough, going back to his temper, it doesn't really flare when people say bad things about him- he couldn't care less about the public opinion. When people speak of his friends or family, though, it is an immediate, infuriated response. A true demonstration of loyalty, he's been told. He doesn't care- he just thinks it's the right thing to do. All of these things make the young man seem solemn, even a little angry, but really, just like every other boy his age, he's got a childish, immature side buried beneath it all. He can play pranks just like everyone else- and perhaps better. A sense of mischief accompanies him everywhere, just like his smile.

What Was, Is, and Will Forever Be;;
Family:
Sarah Black (Deceased) - Mother
Billy Black - Father
Rachel Black - Older Sister
Rebecca Black - Older Sister
History:
Born on April 25, 1989 to Billy and Sarah Black, Jacob was the youngest of three children- two of which were his twin older sisters, Rachel and Rebecca. His family was poor and large considering the fact that not many families on the reservation had more than one or two children, but they got by (barely) and were happy- at least, they were for a time. When Jacob was very young (so young that he can't even remember her), his mother passed away from illness and left him and his two sisters in the care of their father. Jake vaguely recalls his sisters going through a period of immense grief, but nothing compared to the towering despair that overshadowed his father. Being far too young to comprehend fully the meaning of his mother's death, Jacob tried to be some form of consolation- little by little, his sense of responsibility grew as he assisted around the household which was so devastatingly shattered by the loss of one person. He maintained a positive manner and was in some ways the reason that the family as a whole pulled through the tragedy of Sarah's death. Rachel and Rebecca recovered before Billy did, naturally, because they were able to lean on each other for support, but Jacob had to be the one who was there for his father, and it was difficult- tremendously so. By the time Jake was eight, though, the family was pretty much back on track.
It was here that Bella Swan first came into the equation- her father Charlie was good friends with Billy, so even as a young boy Jake was acquainted with the 'family friends'. Bella only came around every once in a while, though, just to visit her dad, seeing as she still lived with her mother at the time. Nonetheless, the two formed a tentative, albeit easily forgettable friendship. Jacob held hopes that his life would return to normal by the time he reached fifteen, but that was before Billy suffered a degenerative illness that left him crippled and in a wheelchair, and all of a sudden history was repeating itself in the fact that Jake was the responsible, independent one yet again. By this time Rachel and Rebecca had left home for college and to pursue their own lives, so he had no help. It was incredibly difficult- the only good thing that came about from all of it was that he learned to drive earlier. Given his enthusiasm for cars and mechanics, this worked out well for Jacob and was, for a time, the silver lining on a very heavy cloud which kept him going, but barely. Billy's truck was sold to Charlie Swan, as obviously the wheelchair-bound man did not need it anymore, considering he couldn't even drive it. Jacob, at first, wondered what this was for, but then his questions were answered in the form of Bella Swan actually moving to Forks.
Perhaps two months passed where he gave her very little, if any thought at all. Of course, fate seems to have a hand in things and thus they did meet eventually by chance on First Beach. Her attempts at flirting with him were hardly subtle and even less skillful but he was 'dazzled' by her anyway- she'd always been a positive influence on his life, even in his childhood, so that thought vaguely stuck and developed into a kind of mild crush, which resulted in his telling her about the old Quileute legends and the 'Cold Ones' (the Cullens, of course). This was unintentional on his part- it sort of slipped out, meant to be a 'scary story', and he believes it to be nothing more than superstition. Billy's efforts all throughout Jake's childhood (between grieving) to make him believe the stories have been shrugged off as simple nonsense- completely improbable to a stubborn teenage boy, of course. Tales of spirit wolves and the cold ones, their mortal enemies, do not hold much sway with him at all. His only plan is to do what he can to try and live life to the fullest, and there's no nonsense about that anywhere. What will be, will be.
Other:
Jacob is of both Ateara and Black blood through his heritage and thus has double the werewolf gene, technically. His great-great-grandfather was Ephraim Black, the last tribal chief of the Quileutes, and thus his father Billy retains some kind of leadership role on the council of tribal elders. Jake's sudden growth spurt is attributed to his own body's preparation for his first phasing into a werewolf, though, of course, he doesn't know that just yet. When he phases he will inherit all the traits and abilities of a werewolf- ability to hear thoughts (but only within the werewolf pack), extraordinary strength (both in human and werewolf form), the ability to phase, obviously, and incredible speed when in wolf form.
RP Example:
As Jonathan Ainsley of this site:Those peculiarly hued eyes of his did well to hide most traces of the laughter that he was holding back when she tried and failed to keep a self-satisfied (but not smug- for some reason Jon doubted that she was the type of girl who could be smug) grin from her face. He smiled back in a reflex reaction to the one she gave him after his inquiry as to her health, polite to the fingertips, as always. Unfortunately, though, the cool and charming demeanor which he had about him disintegrated somewhat as he noticed the blush that suddenly suffused her cheeks at his words, replaced by both a strong sense of amusement and a heightened awareness of the scent of her blood. It was odd how blushes did that to people- how funny that embarrassment could cause greater circulation. He wasn't perturbed in the least, though- really, being in a room full of healthy teenagers was like being in a flower shop, the smells of all the different bouquets all negating each other and creating a generally pan demonic overall fragrance.
And if that were not enough to put a vampire off, self-control certainly did the trick. Jonathan was so accustomed to humans that he didn't even notice anymore, for the most part. Taken from his reverie by the apology she offered (though really, he'd probably only been thinking for a split second), he flashed a rather seraphic half-smile and responded, "Well, I'm not...disturbed." He paused, gave voice to a light laugh, and continued, "Actually, I am disturbed, but not in the sense that I think you were referring to." After listening to her brief explanation, he shot her a sympathetic smile and stated, "Ah, Actividades. I don't think I've ever met anyone who enjoys them." He shook his head at her question and responded, "Not too loud. Just a little startling- you know, usually when a room's quiet and someone makes an exclamation it sounds noisier than it really is." Well, duh. Of course she knew that. "Me, doing okay? Hah, I don't even do anything," he commented, but subsided as she continued. "Nobody's ever compared getting a Spanish question right to being crowned homecoming queen, I'll give you that."
Come to think of it, nobody he knew (and he wasn't exactly the most social of all people/vampires) really gave much thought to the language subject at all- certainly not enough for it to compare with the dubious distinction of homecoming queen, anyway. Perhaps she was merely joking, though- humans had a way of doing that. "You're blushing," he pointed out matter-of-factly and also a mite curiously as he noticed her at it again. She seemed to enjoy the activity of blushing more than most. He actually went so far as to physically wave a hand at her apology, attempting to shoo it away like it was actually there. "Again, don't apologize. I can understand your excitement, but not why you're nervous. Are you, actually? Nervous, I mean. If it's me, you shouldn't be. I'm harmless." He paused and flashed a genuine grin, as if to reinforce this fact. The poor girl seemed to be a little unsettled, and he was probably not helping much. Once she emerged from the veil of her hair and introduced herself he nodded, pleased that he'd recalled her first name correctly after all. "Nice to meet you, then, Angela," he stated in automatic response.
"Yes?" He asked her when she began to say something but decided to stop herself, faint stirrings of curiosity piqued. Jon raised one eyebrow at Angela, suddenly fighting back laughter as she decided to tell him that he was good at Spanish. "I'm alright at it," he conceded, modest on the matter despite the fact that he had years upon years of experience with the language, "You could just say that I've had a lot of practice. And after all, practice makes perfect, I guess." His head tilted without his knowledge when she turned in her chair to look at him properly, returning her smile with an expression that was both encouraging and friendly (or so he hoped) at once. Movies? Movies. She was talking to him about movies. Trying to make conversation, it seemed. That was oddly endearing- she was making an effort, so his smile nearly doubled. "Ah, well, to tell you the truth I haven't had much time for movies of late-" He broke off. Try about four years. "But I've been meaning to go check a couple out." Lies, lies, all lies, but at least they were talking. "Any recommendations? Actually, have you seen any good ones lately?"
